What is ADSL Self Install?
"Self Install" means just that, BT (through Legend) supply you your wires/telecom connection which
will allow ADSL Internet connection through. You now have the ability to provide your own router
or purchase one from Legend instead of using the standard Alcatel Routers normally provided.

|
So where do you benefit, well in the following areas.
Much lower installation cost, only £50 on all ADSL packages compared with £210 on the USB and £260 on the Business ADSL's
You choose your own ADSL modem/router that is suitable for your own needs as opposed to being given BT's standard Alcatel models.
The contract for "Self Install" is requires only one months notice, normal ADSL packages are a one year contract with no early termination option.
Monthly/Annual rental costs are slightly less.
See our available ADSL hardware options.
But nothing is ever straight forward and "Self Install" does have it's negative points as well.
You are responsible for the installation of ADSL yourself, although it is fairly straight forward.
The purchase of a suitable router/modem again is your own responsibilty.
No support will be given on your chosen router/modem, you will need to contact the manufacturers directly for assistance.
In the event of any problems developing on the ADSL, proving where the fault lies will be far more difficult, as neither Legend nor BT would have access to your router (or request it).
A Microfilter is required for any other equipment such as Telephone, Sky Digital, Fax line and so on plugging into the same master socket as the ADSL. These cost approx £15 each.
Which is the better option, well that is entirely down to you and your companies requirements.

If you have a good technical knowledge of routers then "Self Install" would probably be the better option, if you have little or no router knowledge then "Self Install" probably is not the best option.
